The Best Snacks for Your Smile

Smile Approved Snacks

During COVID-19, we know that many of our patients are missing their scheduled teeth cleaning. Additionally, as most of us are stuck at home now, we know that our patients are doing the best they can to stay healthy and maintain their dental health. As your trusted dentist in Strongsville, OH, Dr. Butler has put together a list of healthy snacks that are dentist-approved for you during this quarantine period. Here are our suggestions:

Cheese

Cheese is a delicious snack that will also help your smile. Not only does it taste good, but it also has calcium and protein in it and that will make your teeth stronger. Additionally, cheese also helps balance the pH level in your mouth. This means less harmful acid in your mouth and more saliva production. Saliva production is extremely important to a healthy smile because it keeps your mouth moist and contains proteins and minerals that protect your tooth enamel and prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Yogurt

Just like cheese snacks, yogurt contains the necessary calcium and protein in it that your teeth need to be healthy and strong. Additionally, yogurt is full of good bacteria that will help replace the bad bacteria that commonly lingers in your mouth. Dairy products, in general, are a source of great smile health. Milk contains a lot of calcium, which is one of the best ingredients to help build strong, healthy teeth. If you are thirsty during quarantine, you can also try reaching for a glass of milk.

Apple Slices

This is a great snack for the entire family. Not only are apple slices great for freshening your breath, but they also contain a high amount of Vitamin C which helps your body fight against infections. This makes apples your gums best friend in the fight against gum disease. Follow up your apple with a big glass of water to help rinse your mouth of any acid left behind on your tooth surfaces.

We are very much looking forward to being able to see our patients again. If you had to postpone your dental cleaning due to COVID-19, know that we are here for you when this crisis subsides. We continue to wish everyone in our community continued health and safety. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy some smile-worthy snacks.
