Botox® Cosmetic An Overview
Do you have fine lines and wrinkles that are becoming more noticeable with age?
Botox® Cosmetic is an FDA approved treatment for frown lines, crows feet and other deep lines or wrinkles in facial areas. Dr. Leah Butler is a local provider of Botox and has the training and certification to administer this facial rejuvenation treatment to the patients of Butler Family Dentistry in Strongsville, OH. Dr. Butler also offers Juvederm® and Restylane®. Dermal fillers can restore lost volume as a result of age, lifestyle habits and other factors impacting the health and appearance of the skin.
Why receive Botox and dermal fillers from your dentist?
As a trained and experienced dentist, Dr. Butler has a unique and in-depth understanding of the musculoskeletal structure of the face. She can place injections strategically to minimize your discomfort and maximize your results. Patients also appreciate the convenience of both completing a smile makeover in our office and being able to monitor or touch up their results every 6 months during routine dental visits.
How does Botox work?
Botox targets the underlying muscle structure where muscle contraction and tension increases the visibility of lines and wrinkles. The injections relax the muscles and allow the skin to appear flatter and smoother as a result.
What can Botox treat?
Botox is best suited for deeper lines between the brows, on the forehead and crows feet around the eyes. Dr. Butler will meet with you and evaluate your cosmetic needs to ensure that Botox is right for you and can meet your expectations.
What can dermal fillers treat?
Dermal fillers can address lines and wrinkles around the lips, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines. Dr. Butler is skilled at numbing the area for a comfortable treatment and natural looking result.
Botox® Cosmetic What to Expect
Prior to a Botox treatment, Dr. Butler will discuss your concerns, goals and your medical history to ensure your safety and the integrity of results. The injection of Botox® cosmetic is quick and completed during a single visit to our Strongsville dental office. Dr. Butler will clean the area to be treated and may place a local or topical anesthetic for your comfort. Once the skin is numb, Dr. Butler will gently inject the clear liquid using very thin needles. Typically several injections are placed for your treatment.
Most patients report experiencing a pinching sensation during the process. Minimal sensitivity, mild redness and some bruising may occur afterward. Typically, results are noticeable in the first 24-48 hours and they will continue to emerge over the next couple of weeks as the area heals. In most situations, you can return to your normal daily routine right away. Depending on the number and placement of injections, Dr. Butler may recommend avoiding heavy lifting for a couple of days to speed recovery.
How long does Botox last?
Results from a Botox treatment should last for at least 4 months before you begin to see fine lines becoming slightly more visible. Some patients may enjoy longer lasting results depending on the severity of their lines or wrinkles and the overall condition of their skin. Dr. Butler can monitor the area treated when you come in for routine dental care and work with you on an individual basis to maintain your appearance with touchups and additional treatments.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Juvederm can last for a year or more when used to “plump” the lips or reduce the appearance of lines around the nose or mouth. Restylane typically lasts 6-12 months. As with Botox, Dr. Butler can provide the convenience of touchups when you come in for routine dental care.
